Copenhagen, Denmark — October 7, 2026 - Auditdata, the leading audiology software, hardware, and services company, today announced that the NAL-NL3 fitting system, developed by the National Acoustic Laboratories (NAL), a global leader in hearing research and hearing aid fitting prescriptions, is now available in Auditdata Measure™. NAL-NL3 delivers more personalized, evidence-based fittings tailored to each patient’s specific listening needs. This first-of-its-kind modular fitting solution will help more patients follow conversations in busy restaurants, at family tables, or anywhere noise once got in the way.
NAL-NL3, the first new National Acoustic Laboratories prescription in 15 years, is a modular, machine learning-powered successor to NAL-NL2, the most-used hearing aid prescriptive algorithm in the world. While NAL-NL2 was a single one-size-fits-all formula, NAL-NL3 offers the next evolution: a core prescription plus specialised modules to meet individual patient's needs, like speech in noise. Its modern, modular system is built on millions of real-world fittings and uses machine learning to handle complex listening environments and different hearing profiles.
The NAL-NL3 fitting system joins the Oldenburg Matrix Sentence Test, developed by Hörzentrum Oldenburg, in Auditdata Measure™. Together, these tools let clinicians measure how well someone hears in noise, fit to an independent standard, then test again, demonstrating the improved performance to each patient. This powerful combination allows clinicians to provide objective proof of a patient’s hearing difficulty and show the clear benefits of hearing aids (while testing in their own language and regardless of hearing aid manufacturer.
“Patients tell us they can't hear their grandchildren at a busy restaurant. They get frustrated at a crowded party, loud theater, or other event with background noise that interferes with their ability to hear. Bringing the NAL-NL3 fitting system into Measure™ gives clinicians a properly evidenced way to answer these needs with more customized solutions, helping people hear better, even in noisy environments. With the modules to come, we’re helping people in a way that a single formula could never handle,"”
“Ask someone with hearing loss what they find hardest and the answer is usually following conversations at a noisy restaurant, a festive party, or a professional meeting where everyone talks at once,” said Christoffer Spangenberg, CEO of Auditdata. “NAL-NL3 uniquely leverages machine learning, more than a decade of data, and millions of fittings to address these clinical pain points. By replacing rigid, one-size-fits-all formulas with a modular, evidence-based framework, NAL-NL3 addresses real-world listening needs and resolves long-standing fitting limitations.”
“For patients, this means a better first fit and less of the irritating, uncomfortable trial-and-error that can be so discouraging as they try to get used to their hearing aids. And audiology providers get a trusted, independent standard, built into the software they already use every day,” Spangenberg continued. “We’re proud to offer this innovative testing system in Measure™, as it will solve many audiology patients’ most pressing hearing challenges.”
“With their adoption of the NAL-NL3 Fitting System, Auditdata is making the gold standard fitting prescription available to more clinicians around the world. The NAL-NL3 Prescription was derived from millions of real-world fittings and audiologist insights to deliver a more precise first fit and best patient experience possible. NAL is excited that Auditdata’s making the NAL-NL3 Prescription and Modules accessible to its clinicians, enabling improved care for hearing aid wearers around the world. ”
The NAL-NL3 core Prescription, now available in Measure™, refines the NAL-NL2 philosophy, improving this trusted solution. NAL studied where traditional fittings were leaving people short, then built the system's Modules around those gaps. The new NAL-NL3 addresses real-world listening needs and resolves long-standing fitting limitations.
Two modules, Comfort in Noise and Minimal Hearing Loss, are coming soon, in Measure™ release 6.7.0.
The NAL-NL3 Comfort in Noise Module optimizes listening comfort in noise without giving up intelligibility. As a result, long dinners are less tiring for patients, enabling them to participate in conversations despite the background noise. The Comfort in Noise module was built on substantial speech in noise research, and offers the same fitting range as the Core prescription.
Some people struggle to follow speech in noise, yet have a hearing test that looks normal and have been told little can be done to help them. The NAL-NL3 Minimal Hearing Loss Module provides a solution for these people, previously unavailable with NAL-NL2. Designed for people with minimal or no hearing loss, the Minimal Hearing Loss Module helps patients who have trouble understanding speech in noise but have normal audiograms. This cutting-edge solution addresses a real-world need, supporting patients that may not meet criteria for traditional amplification yet need a viable solution for their hearing challenges.
The NAL-NL3 Prescription is available in Auditdata Measure™ release 6.6.0. The NAL-NL3 Comfort in Noise and Minimal Hearing Loss Modules are planned for release 6.7.0. Auditdata will preview the NAL-NL3 fitting system and the Oldenburg Matrix Sentence Test at EUHA in Hannover, October 14–16, 2026.
More than 430 million people have hearing impairment, yet only 20% of these individuals wear hearing aids.
